Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation announces 2009-2010 Board of Directors
New Westminster, B.C. – September 17, 2009 – Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation has announced its Board of Directors for 2009-2010. Three new directors were elected at the foundation’s annual general meeting: Dr. John Blatherwick, Jennifer Muir and David Worthington.
Dr. John Blatherwick served as the Chief Medical Health Officer of the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and Medical Health Officer in Vancouver from 1984 to 2007. A champion of public health care, he was made a Commander of the Order of St. John while serving as the Provincial Commissioner for St. John Ambulance in 1989; awarded the Order of Canada in 1994 for his work in public health; named a Canadian Health Hero by the Pan American Health Organization in 2002; and awarded the British Columbia Medical Association’s BCMA Silver Medal in 2005. Dr. Blatherwick also served in the Canadian Forces reserves for 39 years in total, retiring in 2000.
Jennifer Muir is Regional Vice-president of RBC Financial Group, responsible for 11 branches and managing more than 300 employees who serve the personal and business banking needs of close to 138,600 clients in East Vancouver, Burnaby and New Westminster. In her 20 years at Royal Bank, Jennifer has held a variety of positions in areas such as National Client Strategy, Sales Delivery, as well as Branch and Call Centre Management. For the past two years, Jennifer has been a campaign cabinet member for United Way of the Lower Mainland, and she is a regular volunteer at the Union Gospel Mission.
David Worthington is a partner in the law firm of McQuarrie Hunter LLP. He is a director of the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association and of the Massey Theatre Society.
“We are committed to raising $2.3 million this year for a digital mammography unit for RCH’s Breast Health Program and urgently needed equipment for trauma, operating rooms and other important areas of the hospital,” said Adrienne Bakker, RCH Foundation President and CEO. “As detailed plans are being developed for a major expansion and redevelopment of Royal Columbian Hospital, the Foundation is also preparing for what will be the largest fundraising campaign in its history to support the hospital. We have every confidence that this talented and enthusiastic group of community-minded board of volunteers will help RCH, Fraser Health and the Ministry achieve RCH’s vision as a key specialized hospital serving people from across the region and the province.”
