Position Title: Senior Development Officer, Leadership Giving

SALARY RANGE: $62,000 to $80,000
Reporting to Director, Leadership Giving, the Senior Development Officer, Leadership Giving is a strategic professional role with the opportunity to build a thriving portfolio of engaged major donors. The incumbent will oversee an existing portfolio of current and lapsed donors giving $10,000 to $50,000. In addition, they will be responsible for actively expanding our portfolio of major donors through proactive, consistent, and targeted outreach.
ABOUT ROYAL COLUMBIAN HOSPITAL
Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) provides the highest level of care to the most critically ill and injured from throughout the region and province. We are a provincial referral centre for cardiac care, trauma, neurosciences, high-risk maternity, neonatal intensive care, and mental health. No other hospital in the province provides this level of care, or offers all these services, on one site or in such high volumes.
Right now, RCH is undergoing a $1.49 billion multi-year, multi-phase redevelopment that will create a world-class critical care hospital. The “crown jewel” of this project is the Jim Pattison Acute Care Tower, scheduled to open in 2026.

Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation (RCHF) is an independent charitable organization that raises millions of dollars each year to fund major projects, priority equipment needs, facility enhancements, research, education, and innovation at RCH.

KEY AREAS OF INVOLEMENT:
This role encompasses the following key activities:
Leadership & Vision:
-
- Builds & executes an engagement strategy for a portfolio of existing, lapsed, and future major gift donors.
Day-to-Day Execution:
-
- With support where needed, conducts all cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities for a portfolio of prospective & current donors giving between $10,000 and $50,000, including targeted personal touchpoints.
- Actively engages new major gift donors through referrals, data analysis, prospect research networking and strategic outreach, working from an existing suspect & prospect list.
- Promptly updates Raiser’s Edge NXT with all appropriate notes & related actions.
- Coordinates & executes promised recognition for all donors within their portfolio.
Collaboration & Partnership:

- Works collaboratively with the Director, Leadership Giving to enhance Raiser’s Edge NXT functionality to build our major donor pipeline.
- Proactively identifies sponsorship prospects for RCHF events & staff recognition initiatives.
- Secures planned giving commitments from major gift donors as appropriate.
- Works collaboratively with the Engagement Pillar to identify patient stories for publication.
QUALIFICATIONS
University degree with five years minimum experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in marketing and communications, public relations, and donor engagement. Specific knowledge relating to marketing and communications in a healthcare environment or non-profit environment are assets.
PROFESSIONAL/TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

- A strong understanding of donor cycle, with exceptional relationship management skills.
- An enthusiasm & willingness to conduct ‘cold’ outreach (via phone, email & other channels) with prospective donors.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- A proven ability to initiate, plan and manage achievements against key metrics.
- The ability to consider the big picture, while also executing the fine details.
- Thrives in a busy environment, works well under pressure, and prioritizes tasks appropriately while meeting time-sensitive demands.
- Proficient in MS Office and general computer skills.
- Working knowledge of appropriate software applications such as Raiser’s Edge NXT.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Valid BC driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
- Willingness and ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends.
