Anne Smith (center) and her husband Clifford receive a Certificate of Appreciation from Feroza Jamal, Administrative Assistant, Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation (RCHF,) for hand sewn clothes made with love and care and donated to Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH). The clothes are distributed to RCH babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Maternity Infant Child Youth (MICY) patients and family and Trauma patients. These are patients who unexpectedly find themselves in hospital without the opportunity to pack an overnight bag.
Ann Smith started the project in September 2011. Her goal was to make 150 items of clothing, one item for each year that the hospital has been open. She has finally completed her projected and she made 152 items. ‘My pile of fabric has gone down quite a lot,” says Ann with a smile. ‘I have had so much pleasure lying awake at night thinking about which fabric and colour to match with the different patterns.
Royal Columbian Hospital opened in 1862.
