If you or a loved one has come through our doors, you know why a third of British Columbians rely on Royal Columbian Hospital for critical care.

We are the only hospital in BC with trauma, cardiac, neurosciences, high-risk maternity and neonatal intensive care on one site. We look after some of the most seriously ill and injured patients. In addition, we are a teaching hospital and a UBC Clinical Academic Campus.

Building on a strong tradition of caring and community support, Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation (RCHF) was established in 1978 to raise funds for the hospital’s first CT Scanner. Since then, the mission of RCHF has been to raise money to help the hospital save lives, restore health and provide comfort to seriously injured and ill patients of all ages.

Today, RCHF is an independent charitable organization that raises millions of dollars each year to fund major projects, priority equipment needs, facility enhancements, research, education and innovation at RCH.

Thousands of individuals, businesses, community groups and foundations in surrounding communities and across the region provide generous support to help RCHF achieve its vision — to inspire giving and grow funding so patients have access to the best in health care at Royal Columbian Hospital.

Doug Eveneshen, Chair

Doug Eveneshen is the Chief Executive Officer of Stabilization Central Credit Union. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant / Certified General Accountant and has an Executive MBA from Simon Fraser University. Doug has held senior management positions in retail and commercial lending, corporate cash management and treasury sales with major financial institutions throughout British Columbia and Alberta.

Tom Corsie, Vice-Chair

Tom Corsie is the Vice President of Real Estate at the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and is responsible for all matters pertaining to real estate management, engineering, asset maintenance and Canada Place. Tom attended school in his native New Westminster, followed by Simon Fraser University and Douglas College. He has been awarded the designation of Professional Port Manager by the American Association of Port Authorities.

Steve Osachoff, Treasurer

Steve Osachoff joined RBC Dominion Securities in 2003. He is also a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI), a Financial Management Advisor (FMA), a Canadian Investment Manager (CIM), and has a certificate in Advanced Investment Advice.

Colin Galinski, Secretary

Colin Galinski practices law through his firm, Galinski Pension and Benefits Law Corporation, providing pension and benefits legal services to plan sponsors, administrators, boards of trustees, labour & employment counsel, bargaining agents, and individuals. Colin is a frequent speaker and writer about legal issues.

Jeff Norris, Foundation President and CEO

Jeff Norris is President and CEO of Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation. His career in non-profit organizations spans two decades and includes experience in health care and post-secondary sectors. In 2013, Jeff was recognized by Business in Vancouver with a “Forty Under 40” Award. He is the recipient of the 2014 Giving Hearts Award for Outstanding Professional Fundraiser by the Vancouver chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Cameron Belsher

Cam Belsher is a senior partner and national head of mergers and acquisitions at McCarthy Tetrault LLP. A resident of New Westminster for the past 26 years, both of Cam’s children were born at Royal Columbian Hospital.

Dr. Sukh Brar

Dr. Sukh Brar is an Anesthesiologist and Cardiac Intensive Care Physician at Royal Columbian Hospital, as well as Past-President of the BC Anesthesiologists’ Society. Dr. Brar can be found in the operating room during complex surgical procedures or on the floor of the Cardiac Services Intensive Care Unit to ensure patients get healthier before they can return home to their loved ones. Dr. Brar has helped lead efforts to better manage the supply of blood for critical transfusions as Chair of the hospital’s Blood Conservation Working Group, and he has been the local lead on a Canada-wide trial aiming to revolutionize the management of bleeding in cardiac surgery patients.

Frank Butzelaar

Frank Butzelaar is CEO of Seaspan ULC. He has been with the Washington Companies since 1993. He previously was the President and CEO of Southern Railway of British Columbia. Frank’s three daughters were born at Royal Columbian Hospital.

Meldy Harris

Meldy Harris is a former teacher and political strategist. For the last 25 years she has worked as a Certified Financial Planner at Sun Life of Canada. Meldy is also a Chartered Financial Consultant in retirement and estate planning, pensions and group benefits, and insurance. She is also a Certified Professional Consultant on Aging.

Jennifer Podmore Russell

Jennifer Podmore Russell is the Senior Vice President at Rennie Group. Having built a career and reputation on her ability to develop real estate strategies tailored to both the client, circumstance and desired outcome, Jennifer is a sought after advisor to the real estate industry. Jennifer oversees Operations for Rennie to ensure the smooth delivery of services by its 135 advisors and 70 team members that comprise the head office support.

Farid Rohani

Farid Rohani is the immediate past Chair of the Laurier Institution. During his tenure, he established the Ethics and Human Rights lecture, expanded the M.K. Wong Lecture Series (CBC Radio). He also established Canada’s first Indigenous speaker series at Vancouver Island University.
He has served on the Royal Canadian Mountain Police (E-Division) Diversity Advisory Committee, and on the Steering Committee of the Vancouver Dialogues Project. He has been honored with the British Columbia Multicultural Award (2011), the British Columbia Regiment Commanding Officer’s Commendation (2014), and has been recognized as a Georgia Straight Cultural Navigator (2013).
Farid publishes widely on immigration, diversity and ethics. He also manages his family’s Vancouver-based development and real estate holding company.

Catherine Ruby

Catherine Ruby is a CPA, CA and the CFO of Collingwood School Society and Foundation where she is responsible for Finance, HR, IT, Facilities and Risk. Catherine brings experience providing strategic business advice and ensuring long-term financial sustainability as CFO of the Rick Hansen Foundation, CFO of the Rick Hansen Institute, and Audit Manager at KPMG LLP, where her clients included not-for-profit organizations, health authorities and large private companies. Catherine also sits on the Finance Committee of BC SPCA.

Dr. William Siu, MD, FRCPC

Dr. William Siu is a radiologist with a subspecialty in neuro and interventional radiology. After completing medical school at University of British Columbia in 1994, he spent a year at Royal Columbian Hospital as an intern and was impressed by the collegial and “can do” atmosphere at RCH. After completing his radiology residency and fellowship subspecialty training at UBC, he was fortunate to return to RCH in 2000 as a staff radiologist.

Emily Taylor

Emily Taylor is a CPA, CA and the Chief Financial Officer for the Surrey City Development Corporation (SCDC). In this capacity she is responsible for finance, treasury, governance, risk management, human resources and information technology needs for the Corporation. Emily is committed to providing strong, strategic leadership and creating long lasting relationships with partners and stakeholders. She earned her ICD.D designation through the Institute of Corporate Directors in February 2018.

Norm Taylor

Norm Taylor is Executive Vice President & Managing Director of CBRE Vancouver & Victoria. Born and raised in Toronto, Norm moved to attend the University of British Columbia where he graduated with a BA in 1995, after which he began to work in real estate. Norm lives in North Vancouver with his wife, and together they have three children and a dog.

Rana Vig

Rana Vig is an entrepreneur who has 30 years of business experience, during which time he has helped to launch five business ventures in private industry. In 2010, Rana became involved in publicly traded companies – first as the Executive Vice President at RTN Stealth Software Inc., then as president of Musgrove Minerals Corp, and in 2013, as Chairman and CEO of TSX listed Continental Precious Minerals. Rana is a former chair of British Columbia’s Open Learning Agency, and continues to serve on public company boards and committees.

Fred Withers

In 2014, Fred retired as a Partner and Chief Development Officer for Ernst & Young LLP (Canada). An auditor by training, Fred was the Managing Partner for British Columbia from 2001 to 2011 and the Managing Partner for Western Canada from 2005 to 2011. He is currently a Director of Avigilon Corp., a TSX listed company. Fred is a Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant (FCPA, FCA) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the UBC Sauder School of Business.

Community Engagement Specialist

OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, this position is responsible for implementing key annual giving activities and contributing strategic thinking for the digital marketing strategy and execution, donor acquisition and new donor stewardship, direct response marketing, and event management. The successful candidate will identify new strategies and opportunities for community engagement, cultivating and stewarding relationships to their maximum potential. We are looking for a dynamic, positive, team-player with exceptional writing skills, attention to detail and strong project management experience.

KEY AREAS OF INVOLVEMENT INCLUDE:

  • Develops strategy and executes on the designated areas on the Annual Giving portfolio; develops and implements goals and objectives, ensuring the delivery of effective and efficient services in support of the overall operational and strategic objectives
  • Identifies, develops, cultivates and stewards a portfolio of prospects/donors relevant to the areas of oversight
  • Builds collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Effective management of expenses related to the portfolio
  • Plans and implements management strategies to ensure assigned donors are moved towards their full giving potential

QUALIFICATIONS:

University degree with five (5) years minimum experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in digital and social media marketing, direct mail, event planning, and stewardship and sponsorship in the fundraising field. Experience with MS Office applications including Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook. Experience with Raiser’s Edge or other CRM software would be considered an asset. Excellent communication skills; written and verbal. Strong project management, analytical skills, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy. CFRE certification or other fundraising-related training would be considered and asset. Valid BC driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle is required, as is an ability to work irregular hours, as required for events.

Clinical Research Coordinator/Research Facilitator

THREE YEAR TERM POSITION: October 2018 TO MAY 2021 (WITH POSSIBILITY OF EXTENSION)

Reports to: Director of Special Initiatives, Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation (RCHF) and supports the objectives of Council for Advancement of Research Efforts (CARE) under the guidance of the Chair of CARE.

OVERVIEW:

Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitment of Royal Columbian Hospital

The Clinical Research Coordinator/Research Facilitator is an operational leader role, responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operations for research at Royal Columbian Hospital.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Qualified by training and/or related experience in a clinical research capacity.
  • A minimum of six years of related experience in clinical research.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. In consultation with the Chair of CARE and the CEO of RCHF, establishes annual deliverables, process and promotional plan for access to position (subject to endorsement by CARE committee).
  2. Leads the promotion, management, support and execution of research within RCH, from basic science up to and including clinical studies.
  3. Develop overall implementation, communication and evaluation work plans to ensure alignment with the Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 targets for this three-year position.
  4. Plays an active strategic role in the development of new relationships with those who conduct research within RCH, including but not limited to academic researchers, RCH researchers, industry and other parties with similar interests.
  5. Implements a clear pathway for affiliated academic researchers and researchers to provide the most effective and efficient support throughout the research approval and implementation process, including processes for obtaining research ethics approval, obtaining access to data and research-related services provided by RCH/Fraser Health departments and the provision of research development support for obtaining funding and developing research projects.
  6. Ensures research teams are trained in the conduct of research and in knowledge translation skills. Consults with research teams or individuals conducting research to plan and develop the research projects, including formulating research questions from concept to protocol. Ensures that all research adheres to Fraser Health research-related policies, Health Canada Regulations and all Provincial and Federal Privacy policies.
  7. Tracks and reports research activities in accordance with the CARE plan.
  8. Ensures resources are in place to implement research studies at RCH.
  9. Coordinates team activities: training, mentorship and guidance.
  10. Sources and coordinates third party vendors in support of research, negotiates contracts, defines scope of work and manages deliverables.
  11. Works collaboratively with the Chair of CARE (i.e. providing regular updates on activities), ensuring timely notification of issues or problems, and collects feedback both from internal and external project team members.
  12. Performs other duties as required.

PROFESSIONAL/TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES:

  • Experience in developing research ethics applications, study protocols and grant applications.
  • Demonstrates understanding/training on the research ethics process, research integrity, completion of the Tri-Council Policy Statement 2 (TCPS2) training and other research regulations.
  • Experience within a regulatory environment compliant with current privacy and ethical best practices in the conduct of human research.
  • Knowledgeable in Regulations and guidelines that govern the conduct of high quality health research including Good Clinical Practice and Health Canada Division 5.
  • Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Experience working on various types of clinical research projects.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail and compose clear, concise correspondence and presentations.
