ABOUT ROYAL COLUMBIAN HOSPITAL
Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) provides the highest level of care to the most critically ill and injured from throughout the region and province. We are a provincial referral centre for cardiac care, trauma, neurosciences, high-risk obstetrics, neonatal intensive care, and mental health. No other hospital in the province provides this level of care, or offers all these services, on one site or in such high volumes.
RCH is currently undergoing a $1.49 billion multi-year, multi-phase redevelopment that will create a world-class critical care hospital. The “crown jewel” of this project is the Jim Pattison Acute Care Tower, scheduled to open later this year.

Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation (RCHF) is an independent charitable organization that raises millions of dollars each year to fund major projects, priority equipment needs, facility enhancements, research, education, and innovation at RCH.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Vice President, Philanthropy, the Development Officer, Hospital Philanthropy will play a multi-faceted role within our evolving Philanthropy & Development Team, including frontline fundraising, project management, data analysis & reporting. Their efforts will be directly tied to revenue generation, with a specific focus on giving among physicians and frontline care providers giving over $1,000 annually. Additionally, this role will work to proactively engage grateful patients in giving.
KEY AREAS OF INVOLVEMENT
This role encompasses the following key activities:
Leadership & Vision:
- Develops & executes a comprehensive strategy to engage and renew support among physicians and frontline care providers giving over $1,000, including department-wide pledges.
- Develops & executes a referral framework among physicians and frontline care providers to engage grateful patients in giving.
- Demonstrates industry knowledge & shares best practice to ensure ongoing excellence.
Day-to-Day Execution:
- Conducts all cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities for physicians and frontline care providers giving $1,000 or more, with a key focus on achieving revenue goals for the portfolio.
- Proactively identifies & plans initiatives to engage with clinical leaders to build philanthropic relationships, including regularly attending department meetings.
- Develops close-knit relationships with physicians to secure referrals of grateful patients to engage in philanthropy.
- Leads the development of the necessary tools to support all activities in this portfolio, including appeals, presentations and other materials.
- Promptly updates Raiser’s Edge NXT with all appropriate notes & related actions.
- Offers strategic input on stewardship & engagement activities & events for physicians and frontline care providers.
Collaboration & Partnership:
- Actively supports the overall revenue goals of the Philanthropy & Development Team by identifying prospects for other portfolios, including sponsorship, third-party events and planned giving.
- Considers opportunities to engage physicians & frontline care providers in the work of the Foundation through participation in events and marketing initiatives.
- Directs inquiries about funding competitions and other resources within the Foundation to the appropriate team lead.
QUALIFICATIONS
CFRE designation and/or university degree with two to three years minimum experience or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience, with demonstrated success in fundraising. Alternatively, a professional background in medicine or healthcare would also be valued.
PROFESSIONAL/TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
- Proven leadership capabilities in a fast-paced, dynamic fundraising environment.
- A strong understanding of the donor cycle, with exceptional relationship management skill and a demonstrated track record of soliciting & securing gifts over $1,000.
- An enthusiasm & willingness identify sustained opportunities to engage with the hospital community to build philanthropic relationships.
- Enthusiastically collaborates to ensure organization-wide success against revenue goals.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- A proven ability to initiate, plan and manage achievements against key metrics.
- The ability to consider the big picture, while also executing the fine details.
- Thrives in a busy environment, works well under pressure, and prioritizes tasks appropriately while meeting time-sensitive demands.
- Proficient in MS Office and general computer skills.
- Working knowledge of appropriate software applications such as Raiser’s Edge NXT.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Valid BC driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
- Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends on occasion.
