ABOUT ROYAL COLUMBIAN HOSPITAL
Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) provides the highest level of care to the most critically ill and injured from throughout the region and province. We are a provincial referral centre for cardiac care, trauma, neurosciences, high-risk obstetrics, neonatal intensive care, and mental health. No other hospital in the province provides this level of care, or offers all these services, on one site or in such high volumes.
RCH is currently undergoing a $1.49 billion multi-year, multi-phase redevelopment that will create a world-class critical care hospital. The “crown jewel” of this project is the Jim Pattison Acute Care Tower, scheduled to open later this year.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Vice President, Philanthropy, the Director, Leadership Giving will play a multi-faceted role within our evolving Philanthropy & Development Team, including frontline fundraising, project management, strategic planning, analysis & reporting and team leadership. Their primary area of responsibility is revenue generation, with a specific focus on leadership gifts between $10,000 and $250,000.
KEY AREAS OF INVOLVEMENT
This role encompasses the following key activities:
Leadership & Vision:
- Oversees a dynamic team of 1 to 3 direct reports, offering guidance, mentorship and actively removing obstacles to collectively achieve revenue targets.
- Supports the development & execution of the annual fundraising plan.
- Oversees the development, execution & management of team-wide strategies to ensure a growing pipeline of qualified prospects.
- Demonstrates industry knowledge & shares best practice to ensure ongoing excellence.
- Participates in monthly Senior Leadership Team meetings.
Day-to-Day Execution:
- Conducts all cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities for a personal portfolio of prospective & current donors giving between $10,000 and $250,000, including targeted personal touchpoints.
- Engages new leadership gift donors through referrals, networking and strategic outreach, working from an existing suspect & prospect list.
- Leads & executes events and initiatives to ensure impact-driven cultivation and stewardship for prospective & current donors.
- Promptly updates Raiser’s Edge NXT with all appropriate notes & related actions.
- Coordinates & executes promised recognition for all donors within their portfolio.
Collaboration & Partnership:
- Pro-actively identifies opportunities to engage future & current donors in diverse revenue generation activities across the organization, including sponsorship, planned giving, mid-level giving and family (internal) giving.
- Shares patient stories and experience with our Marketing & Communications Team for possible publication.
QUALIFICATIONS
CFRE designation and/or university degree with seven to ten years experience or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience, with demonstrated success in fundraising. Previous supervisory experience is preferred. Background in a healthcare or postsecondary environment is considered an asset.
PROFESSIONAL/TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
- Proven leadership capabilities in a fast-paced, dynamic fundraising environment.
- A strong understanding of the donor cycle, with exceptional relationship management skill and a demonstrated track record of soliciting & securing gifts over $10,000.
- An enthusiasm & willingness to attend networking events and conduct ‘cold’ outreach (via phone, email & other channels) with prospective donors.
- Enthusiastically collaborates to ensure organization-wide success against revenue goals.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- A proven ability to initiate, plan and manage achievements against key metrics.
- The ability to consider the big picture, while also executing the fine details.
- Thrives in a busy environment, works well under pressure, and prioritizes tasks appropriately while meeting time-sensitive demands.
- Proficient in MS Office and general computer skills.
- Working knowledge of appropriate software applications such as Raiser’s Edge NXT.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Valid BC driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
- Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends on occasion.
