Champions of Philanthropy 2021

Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation is proud to recognize our 2021 Champions of Philanthropy.

By demonstrating their philanthropic commitment and making important contributions in support of the Foundation’s mission, the following members of Royal Columbian Hospital have distinguished themselves by encouraging their peers to give, inspiring their networks to engage and making their own charitable gift.

2021 recipients

• As Regional Department Head of the Mental Health and Psychiatry Program, Dr. Anson Koo has been instrumental in the Foundation’s fundraising efforts in support of the new Mental Health and Substance Use Wellness Centre. Dr. Koo eloquently shared the new centre’s vision with donors, and he was the spokesperson in a number of Foundation campaigns. Dr. Koo has also greatly assisted the Foundation in identifying other opportunities to support mental health initiatives.

• A fantastic supporter of the Foundation, Kuljit Minhas has repeatedly stepped forward to help with the charity’s efforts over the years. With a jovial and good-natured approach, he has helped raise awareness of the role of respiratory therapy among donors and has been part of the Foundation’s Peer Advised Impact Fund for a few years. Kuljit has been a great ambassador for the hospital through his work provincially and nationally.

Dr. Steve Reynolds was site medical director during some of the Foundation’s most successful fundraising years, providing strong leadership in support of the organization’s charitable goals. He has been a frequent collaborator in donor and news media initiatives and helped to increase the hospital’s profile. Dr. Reynolds has also fostered research efforts within Royal Columbian and was awarded the TB Vets Charitable Foundation Professorship in Critical Care at Simon Fraser University.

• A physician lead for the COVID-19 vaccine roll out, Dr. Carolyn Shiau has shown exceptional communication and collaborative skills. She identified opportunities to involve donors in the immunization effort and was outstanding while answering their vaccine questions. Dr. Shiau has taken part in a number of Foundation events and promotions and has represented the Department of Pathology/Lab Medicine compellingly.

Please join us in congratulating these individuals for their profound commitment to the Family Campaign at Royal Columbian Hospital. Each Champion has supported the Foundation by volunteering, supporting with their own philanthropy, and making grateful patient referrals.
