New Westminster, B.C. – {August 18, 2014} – Rail safety has an added charitable twist under a partnership between a locally-based freight transporter and Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation.

The efforts of employees at Southern Railway of British Columbia (SRY) over the last two years have resulted in $126,000 in donations to the Foundation.

The company is matching funds saved through injury prevention, thereby promoting safety and giving back to the community at the same time. The employees’ excellent safety record has meant regular contributions have been made to the Foundation quarterly since the program started in 2012.

“This is a brilliant example of how to take a company goal and turn it into an opportunity to give back to the region,” says Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation Chair Doug Eveneshen. “We’re incredibly grateful to Southern Railway of British Columbia for their generosity and to its employees for their ongoing dedication to safety.”

In addition to the company’s contributions, its President and CEO Frank Butzelaar sits on the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

“Royal Columbian has always been there for my family and the families of many of our employees,” notes Butzelaar. “We are pleased to support the Foundation and help the hospital serve the region’s health needs.
