Law firm pledges to mental health expansion at Royal Columbian

A mid-sized law firm with local roots going back decades is supporting the region’s mental health needs with a gift towards redevelopment at Royal Columbian Hospital.

McQuarrie Hunter LLP has pledged $75,000 to Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation for the new 75-bed Mental Health and Substance Use Wellness Centre. The new facility, being built during phase one of hospital redevelopment, will provide a significant opportunity for groundbreaking research, increased psychiatric training and state-of-the-art patient care.

Variety funds music therapy at Royal Columbian Hospital

Funding from Variety – The Children’s Charity is helping elevate the mood, encourage communication and reduce anxiety for children admitted to Royal Columbian Hospital’s Pediatric Unit.

Those are among the benefits of a music therapist, whose work is being funded by a $20,000 contribution from Variety to Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation.

A further $15,000 grant will help support families from outside the Lower Mainland who face financial hardships because a child or pregnant mother is hospitalized at Royal Columbian.

Shortlist announced for Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment

Phase one of the Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment Project reached a milestone by shortlisting three proponents to participate in the next stage of the competitive selection process to design and build a new mental health and substance use facility and energy centre.

Following an evaluation, these three teams were shortlisted to participate in the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage:

    RFQ issued for phase one of Royal Columbian Hospital redevelopment

    The start of phase one of the redevelopment of Royal Columbian Hospital moved a step closer today with the issuing of a Request for Qualifications (RFQ).

    The RFQ is the first stage in the competitive selection process and invites teams to express their interest in designing and building a new mental health and substance use facility, energy centre and underground parkade. Fraser Health will then identify a shortlist of three teams that will be invited to submit detailed designs.

    Redevelopment of Royal Columbian Hospital set to begin

    A new mental health and substance use facility, outpatient clinics and better care for seniors are part of the first phase of redevelopment of Royal Columbian Hospital.

    Health Minister Terry Lake today announced business plan approval for phase one of the redevelopment, with a $249.8 million commitment from the Province and $9.1 million from the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation.
