Help BC’s busiest cardiac care team
Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation wants to bring the latest technology and equipment to the hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab – the busiest in the province and serving the entire Fraser Health region.
The Cardiac Care Campaign has a $3.3 million dollar fundraising goal to upgrade Royal Columbian Hospital’s two cath lab suites, which are available 24/7 for cardiac emergencies like acute heart attacks. The interventional cardiology team performs high-levels of angioplasty to restore blood flow to blocked arteries and conducts angiograms to diagnose heart disease and other cardiac problems.
Simon Ma’s Story
Simon Ma knew he had high blood pressure. He is also the first to admit he had a poor diet, didn’t exercise, and he wasn’t being helped by his pack-a-day smoking habit. But the 50-year old Burnaby man is stunned at how suddenly his life almost ended one night while watching his son play hockey at a Surrey arena.
Ethel Goddard’s Story
Ethel Goddard has led an impressively active life. Hiking, cycling, skiing, tennis: she and her husband would frequently gather the three children and spend time doing all kinds of outdoors activities. It’s a habit Ethel carried into her 80s, as the Langley resident joined local fitness group sessions and walked regularly. It was while out with her daughter that her condition dramatically changed.
RFQ issued for phase one of Royal Columbian Hospital redevelopment

The start of phase one of the redevelopment of Royal Columbian Hospital moved a step closer today with the issuing of a Request for Qualifications (RFQ).
The RFQ is the first stage in the competitive selection process and invites teams to express their interest in designing and building a new mental health and substance use facility, energy centre and underground parkade. Fraser Health will then identify a shortlist of three teams that will be invited to submit detailed designs.

Scott McGillivray’s Story
It was a beautiful, unseasonably hot spring day in the Lower Mainland, the start of what turned out to be the longest warm spell of 2009. For Scott McGillivray, it was a perfect day to cruise home from work on his one-year-old Victory Jackpot motorcycle. He was in Cloverdale, close to his destination, when a truck swerved into him. The accident left Scott with a number of injuries, including several shattered ribs and a broken shoulder blade. But it was a tear in the body’s main artery that put his life most in danger.
James Milne’s Story
James Milne had gone down the hill on his skateboard many times before. This time however, the ride was near fatal. The Langley 17-year old lost control, crashed and suffered a traumatic brain injury. He would soon need emergency surgery at Royal Columbian Hospital, and his story serves to remind us of the importance of helmets.
Making the Cut raises record amount
This year’s Making the Cut Charity Golf Classic raised more than $32,000 for Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation. In its three years, Making the Cut has earned close to $80,000 for the hospital’s equipment needs.
