Senft family’s Story
It was a complete shock when Sarah Senft’s water broke. The North Shore family physician was not yet 30 weeks pregnant. She and her husband Riley, an anesthesiologist, were in California at the time for a family wedding. While the couple tried to stay calm, it was the start of a whirlwind of events that led them to be airlifted unexpectedly to Royal Columbian Hospital, where Zoe Senft was born several hours later, 10 weeks premature.

The patients may be tiny, but the outpouring of gratitude is tremendous, as families whose newborns received care throughout the years at Royal Columbian Hospital’s Variety Neonatal Intensive Care Unit came together to say thanks.
More than 100 people gathered on Saturday, June 25, 2016 in Sapperton Park to celebrate the care delivered just across the street in the hospital’s NICU – one of four ‘Level 3’ centres in the province that are designated to care for the sickest and most fragile premature babies from throughout British Columbia.

A company that makes children among its top charitable priorities has made a donation to help Royal Columbian Hospital’s smallest patients. Corix has made a $10,000 gift to Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation in support of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The first seven months felt remarkably smooth for Lindsay Davidson, who was preparing for the arrival of their first child with husband Ben Abel. But a routine check-up at 30 weeks sent the North Vancouver couple into a week-long tailspin that eventually brought them to Royal Columbian Hospital for an emergency delivery and an anxious introduction to parenthood.

Family & friends of triplets give back to Royal Columbian NICU
A Ladner family and their friends will purchase a life-saving piece of equipment for premature babies and other fragile newborns at Royal Columbian Hospital, five years after triplet girls received care in the hospital’s Variety Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The Van Marrewyk family collected $55,000 in donations to help Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation buy a jet ventilator, in appreciation of the hospital’s neonatal staff after Ron and Stephanie Van Marrewyk’s daughters Andy, Paige and Shauna were born prematurely at 29 weeks in 2010. The girls spent two months in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Royal Columbian Hospital’s smallest patients benefit from RBC donation
A $20,000 donation to Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation will help provide the right environment for premature babies to get stronger and healthier.
The gift from RBC Foundation will go towards the purchase of a Giraffe Omnibed incubator. This high-tech incubator provides an ideal, stable microenvironment to promote healthy growth in these vulnerable patients.
